Bad Boy vs. Grasshopper: Which Zero-Turn Is Right for You?
Bad Boy vs. Grasshopper: Which Zero-Turn Is Right for You?
We carry both Bad Boy and Grasshopper at Falcon Equipment & Supply, and we get this question a lot. Both build excellent zero-turn mowers — the “right” one depends on how you mow, what you mow, and what you want the machine to do the rest of the year. Here’s an honest rundown.
The Big Difference: Deck Position
Bad Boy runs a mid-mount deck — the cutting deck sits underneath the machine, between the wheels. Grasshopper is best known for its out-front deck (they build mid-mounts too). An out-front deck reaches under low branches, trims around trees and playsets, and follows uneven ground more easily, and it flips up for simple blade access. Mid-mount machines are compact, nimble through tight gates, and often a bit less expensive for comparable power.
Choose Bad Boy if…
You want a rugged, great-value zero-turn for open or semi-open property, you mow mostly grass, and you like a huge lineup of residential-through-commercial models and deck sizes. Bad Boy’s thick fabricated decks and strong warranties are a favorite with acreage owners.
Choose Grasshopper if…
You have lots of trees, landscaping, or uneven terrain where the out-front deck shines, or you want a true year-round machine. Grasshopper’s quick-attach implements — baggers, blowers, snow blades, brooms, aerators — turn one mower into a four-season tool.
Still Not Sure? Come Try Both.
Specs only tell you so much — sitting on the machine tells you the rest. Stop by Falcon Equipment & Supply in Ogden and we’ll walk you through both lineups, match a deck size to your property, and go over financing. Questions first? Call 217-582-2299.
